Every Mile a Memory

Time to stop, drop, and write for 5 minute Friday with The Gypsy Mama. Today's word is remember, and I love to do that. I can truly see the hand of God at work in the subtle moments when I remember and at where He has led me.

Ready?

It took two months to create soul mates. I'm not talking about the romantic kind. I'm talking about a connection that goes beyond romance and sweet feelings. I'm talking about tears, mountain climbing moments, laughter, late nights, long distance, and hundreds of phone calls since.

I'm talking about friendship.

I haven't seen these people in almost two years, but I still feel the connection of twenty-three strings connecting my heart to theirs all over the country.

We couldn't have been more different - politically, economically, socially, physically, mentally, emotionally. But there was one area where we didn't differ, and it is the one are that transcends life itself. We are bonded spiritually. That makes all the difference. The bond is too strong too break because it is eternal.

These people have a heart for the Lord, a desire to serve, a passion to make a difference, a commitment to change their section of the world. Two years later and we still laugh together, cry together, encourage, correct, experience mountain moving moments. And we love, because He first loved us.

We are bonded. And these memories are some of the sweetest in my life.

  1. I was on a Campus Crusade summer missions trip -- 10 weeks, and I feel that way about some of the people who were on that trip with me. I talk to one of my friends about every month, even though we haven't seen each other in five years. (Our mission trip was fifteen years ago! Where did the time go?) Weddings, births, it's all posted on facebook, and unfortunately before long we'll likely start welcoming grandchildren into the group of us. (Two people I have graduated high school with are now grandparents, and we aren't even 40 yet!)

  2. That's encouraging. I can't imagine not having these people in my life. Amazing how events like these solidify lasting relationships. Thanks for sharing!
