Always a Gift

Every Friday, I link up with the Gypsy Mama and other writers and write for 5 minutes flat. We set a timer, throw caution to the winds and try to remember what it was like to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.

Today's word....

GIFT

Every week I meet them - women from all walks of life, all ages and stages. Friend. Stranger. Family. Teen. Adult. Outwardly strong. Keeping it together. But inwardly questioning...

"Do I matter?"

And it breaks my heart, because no matter the age the question remains. Women - caught between a contrary culture telling them to be strong, independent, self-sufficient and a history and faith telling them to be submissive, gentle, and dependent on God. The teen wrestling with image. The young adult wrestling with status. The adult wrestling with routine.

"Where's the line?"

I see them throw themselves at men, desiring affection, craving affirmation...

"Am I worth it? Will someone love me?"

Every time, I assure them, they are a gift - beautiful, strong, unique. They are daughters of the King. Created in His image.

Always, always, always a gift. At some point, I hope and pray that they embrace the confidence that comes with the realization that they are loved beyond measure by the God who makes wretches His treasures.

In Him, they have purpose. In Him they are worthy, deeply loved.

  1. Beautiful words here, I know this struggle. I am yet to meet a woman who doesn't. We are daughters of the King, worthy to be loved because He is worthy. Your words bless many.

  2. Oh I had the same thoughts today! Planning a youth girls conference and one of the girls mentioned she had attended a womens retreat and so many of the women were still fighting the same issues... This is a lovely thought!

  3. What a beautiful gift you give these young women -- truth from Him, pushing against the lies of this world that whisper the opposite about who they really are.  Awesome, what a warrior heart you have for His kingdom, for His girls. Bless you.

  4. Do I matter? - I think each one of us asked that question at least once... Thank God, He keeps gently reminding us about the fact that we, indeed, do matter.

    Thanks for reminder :)

  9. This is a good reminder for me. I have a daughter. She is 3 years old now. I want her to know that she is a gift from God, she is precious and she is worthy in Christ.
Thank you for reminding me this is important.

  10.  I have two daughters, and I'm already thinking about how to impress upon them how valuable they are to me, themselves, God.... it's a struggle to battle against the words thrown at us every day.

  11. It's breaks my heart that girls can't see how precious they are. I was one of those girls and scars run deep. I'm still on the journey to believing I am who HE says I am. If only I would have believed it sooner. I'm so glad there are young women like you that are willing to be a part of these young girls lives to bring truth into their lives.
