Relevant

Today I am joining The Gypsy Mama for her 5 Minute Friday. The purpose is to write unscripted, unedited, and purely for the joy of it for five minutes. The theme this morning is relevance. So here it goes...

The Lord blessed me this year with a group of 10 women to do life with. Wednesday nights are our time.  We laugh together, cry together, study God's Word together. Lately, as it always seems with those fresh out of college, we wonder, "Do we matter?"

Is what we are doing right now relevant? I have heard it said that my generation is marked more than previous generations by a desire to be relevant in our jobs. We want what we do to count for something with someone else.

Money isn't the end game. We all feel that the job we work now is not what we want to do long term, what God hard-wired us to do. We crave purpose and to be used for something bigger than ourselves.

But the good news is....we are significant and relevant because we belong to the King of Kings. He knows the plans He has for us, and He alone will direct them. (Isaiah and Proverbs) That makes the interim period have relevance, as well.

Happy Friday!

  1. No matter where you are, no matter what you are doing, no matter what season of life you may currently be in, it IS relevant if you are living it for God. Even in the ordinary, "in between times", waiting rooms of life, God can be used by you to make a difference, to do something bigger than yourself. Look for these opportunities for they are there- As long as you have this desire, God will be faithful to take your gift and multiply it.

    Great post.

  2. I am with you there...our age group does feel this pull all too much. Now, as a young mother, work full time, and school, and being a friend, wife, daughter/sister...i wonder if trying to do it all ends with me losing "relevance" in each of those arenas. But I can't help feel that pull to put my life to purpose. Great post. Met up today through Lisa-Jo's :)

  3. I love this - thanks for sharing. As I near the end of my 20s, I've thought about this a lot. Am I doing things that matter? Is this it? Is my last "adventure" children? (which, now that I'm pregnant, I'm pretty sure will be a terrifying and amazing adventure and is very relevant) Am I living a life that matters? And I continue to be reminded and taught that, just as you say, it's the big picture, the God picture, that makes what we do significant, that makes it matter, even if it feels small. Glad to find your blog today.
